EKU's Center for Kentucky History and Politics and the Kentucky Political Science Association will co-sponsor a symposium at Northern Kentucky University Friday, March 2 on "Voting in the 21st Century: Essential Changes and Challenges."

The event is free and open to the public.

The keynote speaker, at 11 a.m., will be Kentucky Secretary of State John Y. Brown III, who'll present "A National Overview of Recent Plans for Election and Voting Reform: Some Interesting, Some Inevitable and Some Simply Wacky."

The first session, at 9:45 a.m., will feature a panel discussion on "Essential Changes for 21st Century Voting: How Can We Ensure That Another Florida Fiasco Does Not Disrupt an American Presidential Election?" Panelists will be Saundra Ardrey, chair, Department of Government, Western Kentucky University; D. Stephen Voss, political science professor, University of Kentucky; John Heyrman, political science professor, Berea College; and Sara Zeigler, moderator, political science professor, EKU.

A panel discussion at 11:45 will focus on "High-Tech Challenges in the Voting Process: The Cybercitizen of the 21st Century." Panelists include Tracy Campbell, history professor, University of Kentucky; Don Gross, political science professor, University of Kentucky; Johnathan Clay Gay, student, University of Kentucky Law School; Randy Lloyd, political science professor, EKU, and Paul Blanchard, moderator, director of EKU's Center for Kentucky History and Politics and political science professor, EKU.
