Thanks to the philanthropic efforts of a social sorority at EKU, young patients at Pattie A. Clay Hospital now have an educational and entertaining diversion with which to pass the time.

Pi Beta Phi has donated hundreds of children's books to the Richmond hospital. The books were collected at several events throughout the 1999-2000 academic year as part of the sorority's Links to Literacy philanthropic program.

"The hospital is in constant need of books, and we like to support literacy in any way we can," said Chapter President Laura Finck. "It's good to know we can make a difference on a local level."

Other EKU sororities and fraternities contributed books to the project. "Without their support, we couldn't have done this," Finck said.

The 67-member EKU sorority also supports Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts in Tennessee, Project Read and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Pi Beta Phi also performs about 4,000 hours of community service annually, including highway cleanup, and the past two years has captured the Community Service Award among EKU sororities. It also has ranked among the top 10 chapters in the nation.
